Luv 24/7 Home Reviews & Press

AOL Cityguide's Review of Luv 24/7 Let the name puns begin. First of all, this Lower East Side lounge is not open 24-7. Secondly, who knows how long the owners of Gaslight had to wait to secure this prime address at 247 Eldridge Street. Unlike most of its swank contemporaries in the neighborhood, this narrow nighttime-only hangout is understated and low-key. The design may be described as medieval minimalist, which means exposed brick, arched wooden beams, rigid couches and a concrete floor. Only a couple of plasma TV screens and a well-coiffed hipster crowd with Conde Nast day jobs prevent it from slipping into the Dark Ages. The bar, for good or ill, does not serve mead; a modern mood is set with a standard cocktail list of cosmos and martinis. Definitely call ahead, as it's not open everyday, and when it is there might be private parties that don't share the love.

New York Magazine's Review of Luv 24/7 This tiny Lower East Side lounge is the love child of the owners of Gaslight in the Meatpacking District and Sapphire Lounge next door. The beautiful yellow and red stained glass lanterns that hang below a custom-made arched, pine-ribbed ceiling are meant to evoke a monastery from the Middle Ages, but the Gothic theme is subtle enough to escape the notice of the cocktail swilling locals and the wayward uptowners who relax on cozy banquettes made from worn bomber-jacket-like leather. Others cozy up to a bar that’s beautifully topped with cobblestones from a New York street. DJs spinning an eclectic mix of tunes on various nights can whip the crowd into a head-bobbing frenzy, tempting some females to use the cobblestones on the bar for what they were originally intended.

Shecky's Review of Luv 24/7 The Lower East Side as we know it has become a mess where Carrie Bradshaw is moving into Courtney Love territory with mixed results. But off the beaten path on Eldridge Street--where only Sapphire Lounge and bOB had been hiding--comes Luv 24/7, which is much more event-heavy and party-oriented than the Ludlow Street mess a couple blocks away. A medieval aesthetic of concrete, cobblestones, and brick with arched wood accents house modern amenities like plasma screens and an Internet jukebox. Different nights mean different parties, but girls from major magazines are promised; other nights see open mics, private parties, and whatever else comes the way of this castle-like living room. Come feel the Luv.

Joonbug Review of Luv 24/7 This intimate little LES nook is high on laid-back charm. Exposed brick elements, sexy dim lighting, and arched wood ceiling beams play against more modern elements like flatscreen monitors. Strong drinks and a broad mix of music cater to an equally diverse crowd as you chill and hang out with old and new friends.

. . . THAT Matt DeMatt, the nightlife impresario and co-owner of Gaslight, is opening "luv 24/7," a medieval-themed lounge, on Eldridge at Houston.

Shecky's Review of Luv 24/7 "Good things come in small packages" is more than just a coping mechanism for the "less gifted." Luv 24/7, a less-ordinary 75-100-person-capacity Lower East Side lounge opening tonight, makes the most of its limited space, and it does so with smoke and mirrors. Well, mirrors anyhow, like the ones at the end of this wooden, gothic-style ceiling that give the impression that the tiny room’s packing more than it is. The bar top is made of cobblestone from a real Manhattan street, the concrete floor is minimal-chic, and the banquettes, which are wrapped in bomber jacket leather, are faux-weathered in true old-school fashion. When the Internet jukebox is resting, DJs spin everything under the sun. Ownership here includes Matt DeMatt, the brainiac behind Meatpacking District’s Gaslight and the owner of Luv’s neighbor, Sapphire Lounge. What’s not to luv?

Villager Mention of Luv 24/7 Luv bug: He’ll remind you that he pioneered the Meat Market nightlife scene with Gaslight bar. Now Matt DeMatt is opening his latest hotspot, Luv 24/7, a lounge at 247 Eldridge St. between Stanton and Houston Sts.
